Andre Iguodala Secures Next Role as Acting Executive Director of NBPA

Last Updated: November 16, 2023
The four-time NBA champion takes over for Tamika Tremaglio as the NBPA’s acting director after Tremaglio resigned from her role Thursday.

In a shocking shakeup atop the National Basketball Players Association on Thursday, executive director Tamika Tremaglio announced her resignation, and recently retired player Andre Iguodala was named the acting director, the NBPA announced.

Iguodala announced his retirement on Oct. 20 following a 19-year career that included four NBA championships with the Golden State Warriors, a Finals MVP, an All-Star appearance, and two all-defensive team honors. Warriors governor Joe Lacob has previously said he’ll one day retire Iguodala’s No. 9 jersey.

While Iguodala was expected to pursue other business opportunities, the NBPA’s lead position was highly unexpected. However, the 39-year-old has extensive experience in PA leadership, having served on its executive committee from 2015 to 2023.

“I am honored to take on this role and serve the players, who are the heart and soul of the NBA,” said Iguodala, who will reportedly work closely with Tremaglio during this transitionary period.

“I’m presented with a unique opportunity to take all that I’ve learned as a player over the course of my career and apply it to creating an even stronger and more influential union for current and future generations of players. I am thrilled to work alongside our extremely committed executive committee to lead the brotherhood through its next stage of advancement and development.”

Tremaglio will leave to pursue other opportunities. She took over for Michele Roberts in January 2021 and led the PA through negotiations with the NBA for the most latest collective bargaining agreement, which was agreed to in April.

“I am extremely proud of what we accomplished together in collective bargaining and over the past two years as a whole. With a new CBA in place, I am ready to move on from this role and pursue other opportunities,” said Tremaglio.

“I am grateful to Andre, the entire Executive Committee, and all of the players for the opportunity to serve them these past few years. I’m confident that Andre will flourish in this role and continue to empower the players and this union to reach their full potential.”
