NCAA Transfer Portal: Best Players on the Move in College Football

Last Updated: October 25, 2022
From Spencer Rattler to Eli Ricks to Max Johnson, tracking the most notable college football players who have departed for new programs for 2022 via the transfer portal

It’s easy to picture the NCAA’s college football transfer portal literally as some sort of stargate or dimensional warp nexus — and to be fair, that would be really, really cool. Either fortunately or unfortunately, the portal itself is much simpler than that.

So… what is the college football transfer portal?

Glad you asked! First launching in October of 2018, it is a platform that allows players to transfer from one school to another with maximum visibility, organization, and — perhaps most importantly — compliance. It didn’t introduce any specific aspect to the process that was totally, 100% new; rather, it unified and simplified existing processes.

Now that we’ve got the housekeeping out of the way, let’s jump right in and track which college football players have pledged themselves to new programs through the transfer portal process — and potentially tipped the balance of power for 2022 and beyond.
