Google Reportedly Developing AI That Gives Life Advice

Need advice regarding a big decision but not ready to open up to those around you? Let Google help. According to The New York Times, the tech company is using generative AI technology to develop at least 21 different tools for life advice, planning, and tutoring. Keep in mind, Google DeepMind is not intended for therapeutic use, and Google’s publicly available Bard chatbot only suggests mental health support resources when prompted for therapeutic guidance. Instead, think of DeepMind as a second opinion in providing input on complicated situations, such as having honest conversations with friends or solving a problem at work.

Barbie Beats Batman En Route to Making Warner Bros. History

Another week, another broken record for Barbie. The project has earned $537 million as of Tuesday, making it the highest-grossing domestic movie in Warner Bros. Discovery‘s 100-year history. It took 15 years to achieve that feat, as Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight cemented its name in record books with $536 million at the box office in 2008. Since hitting theatres nearly a month ago on July 21, the Margot Robbie-led film has raked in $1.2 billion globally. At this rate, it could very well be this year’s top-earning film.

Travis Scott’s ‘Utopia’ Breaks Another Record as Top Streamed Rap Album of 2023

Travis Scott‘s fourth studio album Utopia recently became the first rap album to spend its opening two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in nearly two years. Now, the 19-track project is the No. 1 most streamed rap album of 2023, Chart Data shared on Wednesday. Utopia boasts features from some of hip-hop’s elite such as Drake, Kid Cudi, and Future. Scott celebrated the July 28 release with the film Circus Maximus, which he wrote and directed and is now streaming on YouTube.

Undisputed Champ Terence Crawford Calls for Professional Boxers Union

The champ has spoken. Terence Crawford sat down with Boardroom’s Rich Kleiman to call out the corruption in boxing. He points to the disparity between the big money behind the sport and that received by the athletes. In another recent conversation, the undisputed champion went so far as to call for a professional boxers union to unify fighters to receive physical and financial protections.

Listen to Crawford’s whole conversation with Rich Kleiman on the most recent episode of Out of Office.

Benito x Boston: Bad Bunny Drops New Adidas Shoe

More new footwear from Bad Bunny is coming. Capitalizing on the hype of last month’s Campus Light “Chalky Brown” drop, Benito and merch partner Adidas are back with the Response CL silhouette in a green “Boston Day” colorway. The sneakers draw inspiration from the Boston Red Sox‘s popular Green Monster wall in Fenway Park and feature breathable mesh uppers with a grayish-green tint complemented by muted green leather overlays atop the quarter panels, forefoot, and collars. Adidas branding completes the look with off-white three stripes that are outlined in black. Retailing for $160, find the trainers exclusively at Concepts Boston on Aug. 18, which is also coincidentally Bad Bunny Day.

Venus Williams to Play in 24th US Open After Wild Card Entry

Her younger sister may have bid adieu to her tennis days last year, but Venus Williams is not ready to follow in Serena’s footsteps quite yet. On Wednesday, Williams received a wild card entry into this year’s US Open at the end of the month. A two-time champion of the hardcourt tournament, the 43-year-old will be playing in her 24th US Open. Earlier this summer, Williams returned to competition after an injury being sidelined her for six months. The seven-time Grand Slam champion picked up her first top-20 win in four years Monday with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Veronika Kudermetova at the Western & Southern Open.

Seattle Sounders Adds to Ownership Group

The Seattle Sounders added three new minority owners to its cohort this week, with all of them receiving shares from primary owner Adrian Hanauer, who still owns a majority of the MLS club. The new names are successful in their own right: Adam Selipsky, CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS); Rick Cantu, CEO and Co-Founder of Redapt, Inc.; and Jay Stein, President of Sand Capital and President of Sandor. “Sounders FC has never been content to stand in place; we’re a club that has led the way in every league of which we’ve been a part and our goal is to continue to capture that spirit of innovation and drive to achieve. Today’s announcement is a continuation of that ethos,” Hanauer said in a statement.
