‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Kicks off Blockbuster Season with $114M Weekend

Temperatures are rising and summer blockbuster season is officially upon us. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 kicked off the upcoming run of big-dollar films with the best-ever opening for the series. It opened with a $114 million box office performance, netting the second biggest debut of 2023, behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie which brought in $146 million.

Warren Buffett took the stage in Omaha over the weekend as the financial titan offered his remarks in the Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting. During his speech, he praised the diversity of the Berkshire Hathaway portfolio and clarified rumors that Apple made up a majority of its holdings. However, he noted that the tech giant is one of the best companies that they own. Berkshire Hathaway shares were up 1.5% in premarket trading in the wake of the annual event.

Bad Bunny does not hide his love for his home of Puerto Rico. The trap rap superstar combined two of his loves this weekend as he brought the WWE to San Juan for two stars-tudded events. He played the role of hometown hero in his Backlash matchup against Damian Priest, in which he took the win.

MTV VMAs Reworks Broadcast Plan Following Writers’ Strike

The awards were not televised. Well, not immediately. MTV announced that the annual Movie & TV Awards would not be broadcast live as initially planned. The announcement followed host Drew Barrymore’s late cancellation, a move made in solidarity with the WGA and the ongoing writers strike. However, the show went on with a revised format – streaming on Sunday after writers indicated they would picket the event. The Last of Us and Scream VI were among the evening’s big winners.
