Bryce Young Sets Records as Alabama Wins SEC Championship
The University of Georgia’s winning streak has been busted. The underdog Crimson Tide showed up to play in Atlanta on Saturday, beating the Bulldogs 41-24 for the SEC Championship title. Alabama quarterback – and Heisman frontrunner – Bryce Young accounted for an SEC title game-record 461 total yards, including 421 in the air. Both teams are likely to secure a spot in the playoffs, which will be announced on Tuesday.
Coach Prime Leads Jackson State to SWAC Title
After years in the shadows, Jackson State is ready for primetime. Legendary NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders took the reigns of the team last year, leading them to a 11-1 overall record and earning SWAC Coach of the Year honors. The Tigers beat the Prairie View A&M Panthers 27-10 to take home the SWAC title on Saturday. Their final stop in the storybook campaign is the Celebration Bowl against South Carolina State, which is set to take place on Dec. 18 in Atlanta.
Kith Previews Custom Monopoly Board
Just in time for the holiday season, the classic game is about to get a whole lot more hip. The fashion brand teased its collaboration with Monopoly on Saturday via Instagram, showcasing the board which is overhauled in the Kith signature color palette and each of the properties reflects the locations of Kith stores. In addition, the board has a leather rolling area, embossed with the Kith logo. The limited-release edition goes on sale in Kith stores and online on Monday and will set you back $395.
From Unranked to Unbelievable, Michigan Clinches Big Ten Title
In the Big Ten Title game, Michigan was playing for more than themselves. The team wore number 42 patches, honoring Tate Myre and the other victims of this week’s school shooting in Oxford, MI. When the clock expired, the Wolverines had posted 42 points, beating Iowa 42-3. Michigan entered the season unranked but has been dominant, especially late in the season. With the win, they are widely expected to have secured a spot in the college football playoffs.
The Rock Makes Fortnite Debut
The Rock is everywhere these days, most recently gracing the newest chapter of Fortnite as The Foundation. His appearance comes after months of speculation and some eagle-eyed fans spotted an Easter egg on his Instagram account earlier this week when they saw a Fortnite-inspired helmet in his fridge in what was seemingly a post for his Zoa energy drink. Gamers will have to be patient before they catch a glimpse, as The Rock does not reveal himself until the end of Chapter 2.
Portland Timbers Advance to MLS Finals
The crowd at Providence Park was electric on Saturday as the hometown Timbers took on Real Salt Lake in the MLS Western Conference Semifinals. Portland beat Salt Lake 2-0. The Timbers capped their win with a goal by 21-year-old Colombian star Santiago Moreno, who came to Portland via the league’s Under 22 Initiative. Portland will host the winner of today’s matchup between the Philadelphia Union and NYC FC for the championship.
Ben Roethlisberger Set to Wrap Steelers Career
The clock is about to strike on Big Ben’s time in Pittsburgh. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Steelers quarterback has told former teammates that this is his final season with the team. Roethlisberger, who turns 40 in March, has had a rough season, throwing for just 14 touchdowns. It is unlikely that he will sign with another team.
Serena Williams Set to Pen Children’s Book
Once upon a time, there was a GOAT who won 23 grand slams… Serena Williams announced that she will publish a children’s book called The Adventures of Qai Qai. The book will be based on her daughter, Olympia Ohanian’s, favorite doll, and will center around the importance of believing in yourself. The doll has become a popular figure through the years and even has her own Instagram account with 353,000 followers. The Adventures of Qai Qai will be released in 2022.
Prairie View A&M Marching Band to Star in CW Docuseries
Following in the successful footsteps of sportscentric reality shows such as Hard Knocks and Cheer, the CW announced that they will premiere a docseries centered around the Prairie View A&M marching band. Prairie View A&M’s band received top marks from ESPN’s Undefeated, which called them the best band in the land. The show will take viewers behind the scenes as members balance practice and performance with the competing demands of college life. March is set to debut on Jan. 24.
